City Departments Fire Department

The City of Newberry Fire Department is a four-man engine ALS (advanced life support system) company. One paramedic, one lieutenant, one driver/operator, and one firefighter man each shift. Our paid career fire department is staffed with one fire chief, three lieutenants, three driver/operators, and six full-time firefighters. They cover 56 square miles for the city and back up Alachua County Fire/Rescue and neighboring municipalities as well, averaging 900-1000 calls per year.

Chief Rodriguez has worked for the City of Newberry since 1991 when he was hired as a part-time firefighter. He worked his way through the ranks and currently supervises a department consisting of sixteen employees.

Chief Rodriguez is also the Code Enforcement Officer for the City.
